When the first of the year rolls around, many people we know set new goals and plans for the upcoming year. Some of those result in life-transformation, and others might last a few days, weeks or months before routine sets back in. We're not necessarily big on New Year's resolutions, but we love the idea of new goals, fresh starts and riding on the inspiration of a new year to motivate ourselves forward--and we love to see our patients in the same mode!
As most of you know, we're located inside Ultimate Fitness and Health, a fully-equipped gym facility that gives us (and our patients!) access to lots of great tools for getting people back on the go. By nature of our location, we see lots of people starting up the new year with exercise plans, goals and a new lease on health, and it's exciting to watch!
Are you one of those who aspires to gain health in 2011? If so, and there's any part of you that's feeling achy, off balance or simply out of sorts, we'd love to talk more with you to see if Physical Therapy might help. PT is not always the answer, but it certainly helps a lot of people--especially those who have pain they can't associate with a specific injury or incident. If you've recently started up a new fitness routine and noticed pain that might eventually hold you back, or if you're wishing you could start a new routine and hesitate because of already-existing pain, give our office a call. We'll have one of our PTs available to talk with you about how we can get you back to where you want to be.
As Physical Therapists, our job is to work ourselves out of one--in other words, we want you to be healthy when you leave us, so that you don't have to come back or pursue other "fix-its" after you've been a patient of ours. We'll be honest in our assessment of your pain, and we'll be delighted to equip you with the tools you'll need to continue treatment and maintenance at home and on your own--long after you're done visiting our office.
Feel free to check out our website at nephewpt.com for more information--or call our office anytime! We look forward to helping you get this new year off to the best start yet!

Turkey & Cranberries
On this very fine Wednesday afternoon, just hours before the working world closes up shop to begin food preparations, celebrating and eating, we hope that you and yours have been blessed by much to be thankful for this year. At Nephew PT, we certainly have!
Since last Thanksgiving, our practice has grown and changed in many ways--we've doubled in staff, added our Vestibular Rehab program, welcomed a new little one (Hello, Cooper Michael!) and launched a new website. Additionally, we've treated over 130 new patients, on top of those we were already treating at the start of the year. We've overcome health obstacles, served in various locations by offering chair massage and educational seminars, connected with new practices and made every effort to serve you better in each way possible.
Of course, we're still growing and learning, as any business will do over time. This year, we're thankful for all that we've navigated and all that has made us better, both as a practice, and as people. We're thankful for healed injuries, increased wellness, flexibility and new life.
We wish you, your family and friends a blessing-filled Thanksgiving holiday. We're thankful for you and all that you add to our daily lives!
Happy Thanksgiving!!!

We're Hiring!
If you haven't already heard, we're in search of a new addition to our team! Thanks to you--our patients, and to all who have sent patients our way, we're really keeping busy. In order to serve you best, we've decided it's time to hire another PT to add to our staff.
What does this mean? It means better availability for appointments, even further accommodation for patients' schedules, more attentive care and an increased ability for us to get you back on the go when you need us.
Why is it worth mentioning? Well...we're still in search of that perfect PT to join us here at Nephew. Do you know of a PT in the area who might be interested in working in an upbeat, fast-paced office? The position would be a permanent, part-time position (20-25 hours/week), with the possibility of increasing hours over time.
Inquiries should be directed to info@nephewpt.com, or candidates may call us at 616.796.9391 with questions and for more details.
Thank you for helping us to grow and constantly improve our business. We really appreciate it!

Taking a Time Out
What relaxes you? What gives you energy? Is it spending time with your family? Being out in nature on your own? Playing an active sport with an enthusiastic team? Whatever it might be, we urge you to make time for it.
We know...schedules can get so busy, days SO full. But in the long run, if you take time out to rest and recharge, you'll be much better equipped to handle the deadlines and details that life throws at you. Not only that, but your body will be better able to bounce back, and your stress level will decrease.
Even if you can't find more than an hour in your week to take time for yourself, make sure to protect that hour--then, do the one thing that is most life-giving to you with that time. Block it out on your calendar. Say no to things that could get in its way. The world will still be waiting for you when that time is up, and you can still return phone calls and emails (and catch up on everything you missed on Facebook...kidding) after you've spent 60 minutes on yourself.
It might seem inconvenient at first, but eventually, you, your spouse, your kids, co-workers and friends will all reap the benefits of you taking time out to breathe.
Have you done this lately? If not, why not make time in your schedule for the upcoming week. It's never a bad time to take good care of the things that matter most--and you're one of them! :)

Aches and Pains
No matter your age, your hobbies, or how active a lifestyle you lead, aches and pains are no fun. Whether you're trying to keep up with sports teams and young kids on the weekends, sitting at the kitchen table or driving a car, a continuous ache can become a real burden--not only on you, but on your daily activities as well.
Perhaps you know the feeling and can really relate these days. Or maybe, you've never had a nagging pain that weaves its way into your regular routine. For some, daily discomfort feels normal. If you woke up one morning without a sore back or neck, or if you went running without your knee or ankle hurting, what would you think? Would you notice? Would you feel more free?
If you're currently dealing with a chronic ache or pain that seems like it might hang around forever, and you haven't tried therapy at Nephew PT, we encourage you to give it a chance. We often see patients who feel like they've tried everything...surgery, chiropractic, medicine, exercise--even therapy with other practices (and in some situations, these aforementioned options might be key to someone's healing process). We've helped these patients to eliminate their chronic aches and pains with success they never imagined. If you feel like you've exhausted other solutions, we still believe we can help. We think you'll find our approach to therapy refreshing. You'll work with one therapist throughout treatment, and we'll give you tangible tools you can use on your own time (and long after you've been discharged) to keep the aches and pains from coming back.
Healing doesn't always equate to a quick fix or an overnight solution--in fact, it rarely does. But your path to wellness can begin today by contacting us at Nephew PT. We'll even help you to secure a referral from your doctor if you don't already have one.
For more information about our practice, our philosophy of treatment, or to fill out an interest intake or referral request form, visit us at nephewpt.com. To hear from others who have had success with our therapy, click here. Come and experience the Nephew Physical Therapy difference!

Your Stories--and Why They're Important to Us!
As a patient at Nephew PT, you are our greatest asset. From the time you walk in the door on your first visit to the day you receive discharge paperwork--and long after you've left our office, you are of utmost importance to us.
We love seeing you, not only because we like to get to know you better, but because we know you've committed to getting better if you're here. Whether your treatment lasts a few weeks or a few months, we can't think of anything more exciting that seeing you get back to your best self. We hope that's evident while you're in our care!
When you finish therapy, we trust that we've worked together to help you improve your quality of life. Along the way, you've most likely increased your range of motion, your level of healing and/or your confidence in your body's ability to function the way it was originally intended. We celebrate that you leave us stronger and more equipped to tackle your favorite activities--and we love to have your therapy story to share with others for this very reason.
As you wrap up your time with us at Nephew PT, we hope that our relationship will continue beyond your last appointment. That's why our Discharge Packet incorporates more than just paperwork to take back to your doctor's office. We want to hear about your experience--what was good or great, what you loved about being here, what we can improve for the future. Along with your completed survey, we gain a great deal of helpful information from your story, which is why we place such emphasis on it :) Not only can we better understand your perspective and your health journey, but often, if you're willing to share it, your personal experience is extremely helpful for others who are considering or beginning Physical Therapy treatment.
If you've been a patient of ours in the past but have never shared your experience on paper or in person, we would love to hear from you! Please email your story to info@nephewpt.com, or visit us here and scroll to the bottom of the page to download our complete discharge packet.
Bonus...Once you've completed and returned your discharge packet to our office, we'll be delighted to give you your very own Nephew PT T-Shirt, in the size and color of your choice. Now isn't that fun?!
